Adult Day Services Specialist

This training & certification is offered in North Carolina exclusively by NCADSA

Certification: So What?

The adult day services industry has learned from certification efforts in the related field of long-term care. The Omnibus Budget Reconciliation Act of 1987 mandated training for nursing assistants in long-term care facilities and created the credential of certified nursing assistant (CAN). Training and certification for CNAs have been found to have a positive effect on assistants’ self-esteem and their attitudes toward their clients.

In adult day programs across our state and nation, the background, qualifications and abilities of adult day center workers are inconsistent. In an effort to provide minimum standardized training and enhance the credibility of adult day center workers, the National Adult Day Services Association (NADSA) developed a curriculum especially for the adult day services field in 1993.

When NADSA offered the rights to administer the certification program to state associations in 1997, the Board of Directors of NCADSA unanimously approved the purchase of the rights for administering the training and certification program.
